I Don't Know Right From Wrong

I bought this as a present to myself for $2 because it's Peter Dayton, frontman for Boston monsters La Peste, being helped out by members of the Cars (Ric Ocasek, Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes); I mean, there's no way that could not be great, right? If you've heard the studio tracks at the end of the La Peste collection that Matador put out a couple of decades ago (a couple of which Greg Hawkes also played on, if I remember correctly) then you kinda already know what to expect from this. If you haven't, then nod your head and just go with it. La Peste's "Skin Tight" gets re-made as a new-wave power-pop song and is the top of the class here; it probably would've made for a nifty KBD-styled 7" 45 had it been released with "Perfect Wave" -- somewhat of a surf instrumental -- on the flip. The other two songs on here aren't anything special, although the extra-flabby ballad "Stuck on The Same Refrain" is probably what set this 12" up as probably nothing more than a resume for a record deal. If you don't own any La Peste stuff then try to track down the "Better Off Dead" single, it was recently re-issued twice and thus is fairly easy to buy online.

I like La Peste, but was totally shocked to see just how much of their ouevre I have on this here computer! Probably your influence.

If you ever feel like uploading "Love at First Sight" from this 12'' would be cool as for some reason not downloadable from youtube and not readily found elsewhere. If not, no biggie, thank you for everything you already do. I've been quiet due to frigging cancer but I appear to have won for the time being and so will be better about letting you know at least 1 person still cares about this blog ;-0 And THANK YOU again for new mag. xo

I e-mailed the mp3 to you; hopefully it's the same e-mail address as a year ago...

Sorry to hear about the big C, I didn't know. That's something that I think about a lot more as I get older. You're welcome, as far as the zine goes -- the list of people who'd appreciate getting a copy is pretty short, I suppose...

Hey - thanks for carrying on sharing all the great music! I've been visiting for many years now... I was just wondering if you were ever planning on sharing any Lost Generation? I had never heard of them before but I found two LP's by them and I've really enjoyed the records, though the "Lost Gen" LP has a few rough tracks... I haven't been able to find much info on the band, but I do see that they have at least 1 7" released.. I figured if anyone had it, you would. Either that or you hate the band since you haven't featured them by now! So what do you think about Lost Generation? Thanks Again

I don't actually own any Lost Generation records right now -- I used to have a couple of their LPs back in the '80s (they were easy to find, Incas Records was probably the biggest CT indie label at the time and it was run by people in Lost Gen, so Lost Gen records were all over the place), and the "Never Work" 7" is probably the best thing they ever did and one of the more important CT punk singles ever... if I owned that on vinyl I probably would've posted it by now.

I have a compilation that has a pretty good track from a pre-Lost Gen band, No Music, which I might get around to posting eventually.
