She Tells Them To Fuck Off

Last night I decided to take the shrinkwrap off some of the 2008 releases that've been sitting here for the past month or so, with Cobra Verde's "Haven't Slept All Year" being one of them, and goddamn if the first song, "World Can't Have Her", didn't nearly rip my head off. It starts off all MC5 and Mitch Ryder and then around the 1:30 mark goes all ZoSo and shit, or maybe one of those better Blues Explosion songs (right down to the Jon Spencer-like "Yea-uh!" right in the middle of it). Friggin' great song.

I started Googling around this morning to see what kind of reviews this thing's been getting, and not only did Dusted already post this song barely a few days earlier, but the lame-ass Hartford Advocate posted a review of the CD only hours ago-- which goes to show what a dope I am, when even the clueless twits at the Advocate are spreading the word on something good before I've even bothered to listen to it. I thought about scrapping my post but then figured I'd go ahead and finish it anyway, for the maybe 1% of you who aren't already making ca-ca like Dusted and the Advocate a major part of your daily reading schedule. (Thanks for stopping by here, though, I really really appreciate it.)

I'm going to make "World Can't Have Her" a listen-only file, since you should really think about heading on over to Scat Records to buy this thing, especially since Scat is one of thee finest record labels in the world (1. Scat, 2. Wäntage, 3. Douchemaster, and yes, I did just make that up five seconds ago). "Riot in the Foodcourt" you can have, since that's available as a free download from the Scat website anyway.

Cobra Verde -

"World Can't Have Her"

"Riot in the Foodcourt"

(both of these files are now listen-only)

Well! You pretty much nailed it on the head all the way with the MC5/ZoSo/Blues Explosion references. Can't add anything to that. Nice.

Wow, that's one I got right!

Led Zeppelin: awesome drummer, crappy everything else, maybe 2 good songs.

Actually, I am quite a fan of Led Zeppelin up until (and including) IV. Much more than 2 good songs. Definitely.

Of course, this wouldn't be the first time we have (amicably) chosen to disagree.

1. Custard Pie
2. Black Dog, maybe??

That's all I can think of right now.

How about every fuckin' song from I-IV ?

Shit. The word verification is "frdstr". Is a higher power accusing me, Lynyrd Skynyrd fashion ?

"How about every fuckin' song from I-IV ?"

Man, that's a whole mess of bad songs right there.

My word verification: LABUSHRA. That means Laura Bush and Sun Ra made a tape together.

A tape ? As in Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee ?

Not what you're thinking. More like Lee Ranaldo and some other guy.

Sorry. I was thinking of the other laura bush:

That's terrible. I'm forgetting I ever saw that.

The horror!

Brushback said...

Yeah, that's almost as bad as listening to four Led Zeppelin records back-to-back.

Close. But no cigar.

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files.
