I Feel Like I'm Flat On My Back Again

No decent record collection could've made it through the 90's unscathed without a few New Bomb Turks singles, so here's one of the better ones-- though really, they were all pretty good, it wasn't until they jumped to Epitaph that shit started to go downhill... anyway, "Summer Romance" is one of my favorite New Bomb Turks cover attempts (behind "Just Head" and "Mr. Suit" and "Ejection" and okay, well whatever), and "I'm Weak" is one of their solid mid-tempo stompers-- y'know, like "Taller Order" or "The Anal Swipe"-- and I like those ones, too.

"I'm Weak"

Dig your blog and the Turks. I do think Epitaph release Nightmare Scenario is a great one

While they still had a handful of good songs, none of the Epitaph releases ever did anything for me... although Nightmare Scenario is one of the ones I don't have. I sorta stopped caring after a while.

Thank You!

Phew! I might've gotten one right!

You're welcome!

I have nothing by New Bomb Turks. A bit blisterpack in feel - which is rich coming from me - but both sides of this single are oddly thrilling.

Very British sounding too. For an Ohio band.

I honestly do not ever recall having listened to the Stones original. But the groove NBT bring to it is very remiscent of Nick Lowe's "Heart of the City".

After this I might just revisit "Emotional Rescue".

DON'T DO IT!!!

Thanks for the concern. I do not own a copy of that album.

But. And it's a big BUTT. I do remember that some of the outtakes and demos on bootleg were not so bad. In a very fucked up disco ball way.

I've generally thought "Emotional Rescue" to be the Stones' worst record, even though I've never heard it all the way through.

Plus, I'm not counting anything after "Tattoo You" as a Stones record.

I'm definitely with you on that one.

A few years back, Emmett on Art Decade posted some of these ER demos.
I was vaguely shocked at how reasonable they sounded; and I wasn't on cocaine.

After listening to the New Bomb Turks cover I looked up the lyrics. Abysmal. And one more good reason why nobody should really own a Rolling Stones LP recorded after "Some Girls".

"Some Girls" was great! I'm still kinda sticking with "Tattoo You" as being their last decent album, even though it was kinda lightweight...

It's pushing it more than a little, but I'll concede the point...

Unbelivable that it was ranked #34 on Rolling Stone's Top 100. I shudder to think what made up the rest of the list. Or who voted for it.

Ah. The Top 100 of the 1980s, actually. Just as ludicrous.

Honestly, given the '80s, I'd figure "Tattoo You" would be a Top 50 album. Talking strictly pop only, of course. It's got that dry sort of beer-commercial wimpiness that was going over big back in those days (Dire Straits, Genesis, Steve Winwood, Eric Crapton, Phil Collins, etc etc).

Each name more sinister than the last.

Early '80s commercial radio was a nasty shithole. Not that it got much better later in the decade.

Yes. A veritable axis of evil.

The music industry through most of the 80s drove commercial radio like a whipped mule.

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. Tough luck, Sgt. Slaughter! No, actually, for those of you who missed the boat, I will do my best to respond to any e-mailed requests for the original files.
