We'll Go Through The Windshield Together

No doubt I spent most of the late '80s listening to straight-edge hardcore all day in between whatever Oi!-metal records that Homestead and Touch and Go were putting out, but besides that, I used to listen to a lot of Couch Flambeau, also. Not as if that should be too hard to understand, since anyone with even a mild appreciation of Billy Squier riffs (posited as non-ironically as possible, of course) to go with a smart-assed sense of humor should find something to like about Couch Flambeau; not that Couch Flambeau sold one-tenth as many records during the '80s as Billy Squier, or even Bertie Higgins for that matter.

"The Day The Music Died", the second Couch Flambeau LP, has "Mobile Home", which is perhaps my third-favorite Couch Flambeau song ever, though that's partly because I grew up at a time when there actually was a broken Big Wheel in front of every trailer park. There's also my second- or third-favorite Christmas song ever, "Santa Claus Skips Cudahay" ("When he finds out you live in Cudahay, he'll fly right past your house"). Why this album wasn't bigger than Huey Lewis and the News "Sports", I'll never know; really, Ray Parker Jr. shoulda ripped off the "Ghostbusters" theme from Couch Flambeau instead, because then he probably wouldn't have gotten sued and he definitely would've ended up with a better song.

So what's you two favorite songs?

Two favorite Couch Flambeau songs? Probably "We're Not So Smart" and "Models", fairly predictably.

can you upload the whole album, pretty please? :)

I didn't rip the whole album, though I did rip 6 more songs besides the five that are posted here. Maybe later I'll make a mediafire file out of all of them.

I don't think it's too hard an album to find, though... as a matter of fact, I think you can still get it for something like 8 bucks from the band's web site.

Thank you Brushback. You're a really nice guy, and you're blog is cool.

Here, I made an all-in-one file of the three Couch Flambeau records that I've ripped so far -- the 11 songs I ripped from "The Day The Music Died", three songs from the "Models" EP, and the "We're Not So Smart" 45.

Couch Flambeau - three things

I'll be deleting this link shortly, of course.

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. They're now being hosted on my Vox account (accessible through any of the above listen-only links), along with a handful of other songs from the LP that I ripped but didn't include in the original post.

The Mediafire link a few comments above this one is now dead, also.

Last time I checked, though, you could still buy a bunch of Couch Flambeau CDs and vinyl through the band's web site.

Long-shot, I suppose, but could you re-up the CF.zip? Been really wanting to hear that second lp, as I love the first record.

I don't think I want to make a .zip file of all the Couch Flambeau songs again (especially knowing that you can buy all of them from the band thru CD Baby), but if you send me your e-mail address I could send along a few mp3's.
