I Don't Need No Help From You

This isn't the greatest-sounding piece of vinyl ever; it was taken from a crystal-clear soundboard tape, but then it gets a bit fuzzy and drops in-and-out at times. Still, it's freakin' Kingface, the band that made all the hardcores and Revolution Summer emo-nerds face up to their own inner Van Halen, so what the heck.

Brian Simmons, the guy who ran the Constant Change record label, was one of the first Rhode Island scene kids that I ever met, back when Verbal Assault first started coming into Ct. to play shows when the only thing they had out was the "The Masses" demo. I'm probably stretching my memory a bit on this one, but I think Constant Change might've started out as a fanzine (which may or may not have actually come out), then as a record label, which eventually became Atomic Action Records.

Kingface always bothered me. A friend from DC back in the day gave me a tape with them and Shudder To Think on it and at first I liked KF more that STT. later I grew to dislike them both.

Perhaps my lack of an "inner Van Halen" is the culprit. If such a comparison is valid...it would sort of make Kingface as worthless as SSD's "How We Rock".

We ALL have an inner Van Halen!

Have you seen Junior's grades?!?

I have an outer QUEEN...(saw 'em twice)! But VH represent everything I befriended Vinnie Stigma for!

Honestly, I can see how some people might listen to Kingface and think it's a big pile of wank.. except that I was always into the NYC HC bands that had some hard rock to their sound (Underdog, Gorilla Biscuits, Supertouch), and for me Kingface are the distilled essence of that sound (by way of D.C.).

I mean, I know they're no Raging Slab, but who is..

A bit late, I know, but thanks a ton for posting this. I remember when it came out, I think -- it was a ways after they broke up -- and I always knew I should get it. But I didn't. Story of my life.
