Don't You Know That Causes Blindness?

I got this one from Bruce Wingate a couple of weeks ago, while we were both being interviewed for a book (which is not quite as hipster as it sounds). Deathrage was an A.O.D./Bedlam spin-off, and "Murdering the Brady Bunch" (recorded in 1984) is a friggin' classic. You could practically laugh yourself silly just listening to it. The flip has The Burnt doing the Flintstones theme, with a picture of John Coletti on the sleeve to match, of course.

Were you interviewed at the same time? Or did everyone sit in a waiting room until you were called in for your individual interview? Or did he have a 1:00 interview and you had a 3:00 at the same place, so you met up briefly in between? Is that "the" Triangle Street apartment? Didn't the described incidents in the Brady song actually happen on the show, when Bobby was obsessed with John Wayne Gacy and then had the bad dream?

Jeez, aren't you the little bugger with the questions...

We were all hanging out in a conference room (it was at the place in Danbury where Darryl from NMOT works) - Bruce and I were scheduled back-to-back, though I ended up talking about three times longer than anyone else.

It was for the book that Chris Daily is putting together about the Anthrax Club and the '80s CT HC scene - the interviews were videotaped, even.

There was a whole bunch of cool stuff there; I even saw the flyer for the first Anthrax show I ever went to (Youth of Today, Crippled Youth, Psycho, and Cancerous Growth 9/30/85).

Since Jere put you thru the paces...I think it's only fair that I dish on him...

Did you know I watched Jere get fired once?

This could be interesting...

He'd actually tell it better. We were co-workers at Borders...our boss sounded like Robert Stack, so we'd do these great impressions of he and Robert Stack talking to each other.

I can only hope the firing had something to do with the boss catching you guys doing impressions of him.

no, jere had to do the "walk of shame" because of his contentious dealings with a cafe manager. But this is a blog about music...and I can only say I wish they allowed me to do my promotional display idea that would have included a cane, dark glasses, a seeing eye dog...and releases by Andrea Bocelli, Jose Feleciano, and Ray Charles.

THAT...my friend...is how you move units!

Wow, Jere working at a bookstore when he was a kid and then years later becoming an author is like Jeff Jacobs working at a dildo store when he was a kid.

Yes, the best part about having a book come out was the moment I saw online that it was available at the Borders that fired me.

However, Tom Blank topped me--he also worked there (I gotta assume he was fired rather than quit), and years later I walked in and saw his face on a poster at the very music desk he once stood behind--this was when that whole Star Spangles thing happened. Two of the workers who'd been there all along were working that day. I made them come around the desk, and I asked them if any of the guys in the band on the poster looked familiar. It took 'em a few seconds, but they remembered him. (Bruce--the workers were Cullie and Ellie.)

Thanx for the post, I love Deathrage! Pat Duncan of WFMU whores the "Murdering The Brady Bunch" song all the time. I wrote to him and he actually gave me the CD with the live at WFMU version of the song. I'd love to see the Deathrage demo cassette posted on here at some point. AOD and Bedlam were both teriffic NJHC bands too.

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. TOUGH LUCK, CHARLIE! No, actually, for those of you who missed the boat, I will do my best to respond to any e-mailed requests for the original files.

Of all the bands on WFMU Deathrage was my favorite and fortunately recorded on my trusty TEAC cassette deck.
One show was on 10-23-87 and then a (reunion?) show on 1-12-89. Unfortunately they didn't play 'brady bunch'.
Send in the Clowns, Chantilly Lace, The Chuck Scarborough Affair Massacre, and a very long jam called 'Bitter' just to name a few.
So one of the many questions I have is did Deathrage ever play again and who were they?

@Trinihead

Deathrage was a side-project of members of both Adrenalin O.D. and Bedlam. Adrenalin O.D. still does reunion shows every once in awhile. No word of any Deathrage reunions though.
