Don't Know How I Had It

I think I was hoping when I bought this that it would be an obscure Dutch noise compilation or something, since the only band I recognized was Buzzoven (and they're kinda noisy, right?). I figured out later that Union Morbide were on one of those No Idea zine compilations that I used to have, which woulda shot down what I was thinking from the very beginning.

The Union Morbide song turned out to be the only reason to keep this record around; most of "Sing Along With..." is just average p-rock, and the Buzzoven song (recorded in 1991) is basically inept; it was probably meant to sound like C.O.C. or something, but it sounds more like that really bad Void metal LP that Touch and Go wouldn't release, or the first Die Kreuzen LP if it had been recorded by fourth graders. The Union Morbide track, on the other hand, is totally great, and sounds a lot like Snuff, or a sped-up version of that Jean Claude Jam Band song I posted a few months ago.

The Random Killing song sucks, too, but I'm posting it here because if you're one of those people who used to listen to compilations like MRR's "Not So Quiet On The Western Front" or the RRAdical "Peace" comp all the way through when you were younger, you would've heard a bunch of shitty punk rock songs exactly like this one. Think of it as a chance to revisit your roots, I guess.

How come the lyric sheet calls the RK song "Sick of it All," while the cover calls it "We're Sick"? Did they think they'd get sued by Sick of it All?

Did you know Wayne Lo has a website now where he sells his artwork and gives the money to the victims' families?

I noticed that they changed the song title, too, though I figured that between the time the song was recorded (1991) and when the record actually came out (1994) the band just changed their minds about the title-- maybe to avoid confusion.

I didn't remember who Wayne Lo was, I had to look him up to see what you meant.

Some of the Buzzove*en stuff is all right. I like the Sore album well enough. The song from this comp though, not so much. Pretty much right with your description for that track. Oddly enough I just ripped a couple of their singles last week or so.

There ya go--the Lo thing happened in between those dates, so maybe they didn't want any kind of connection. But probably the band just changed the name for the hell of it.

didn't you have a similar problem jere, when you coincidentally started using "colin ferguson" as a stage name?

Colin Ferguson-- I was just watching him do stand-up on TV last night. Wasn't bad. He told one funny joke, I forget what it was.

The Buzzoven song is kinda whatever but they did get a hell of a lot better. The song on this comp does sound like really weak interpretation of Anomosity era COC. The later Void songs actually suck even more.

Yeah, I wouldn't want people to judge Buzzoven completely based on this really really early recording - it's more of an artifact, I guess (doesn't mean we can't still say it sucks, though!).

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. TOUGH SHIT, HIPPIE! No, actually, for those of you who missed the boat, I will do my best to respond to any e-mailed requests for the original files.
