Bury Me In A Hole In The Ground

This is a EP that throws together the first two Lime Spiders releases-- the "25th Hour" double 7" and the "Slave Girl"/"Beyond The Fringe" 45. I had the originals once, back when I'd buy almost anything that said Citadel or Aberrant on it, but those are long gone now, so this'll have to do.

It was those early singles, plus the "Out of Control" 45 in 1985, that established the Lime Spiders as one of those Aussie bands that you just had to check out; not quite as hot as the New Christs or Scientists, of course, but they were up there. Their stuff started going downhill fast once they jumped to the majors (and, wouldn't ya know it, those are the records that I still have), but for raw, rippin' garage punk, the early Lime Spiders 7"-ers are pretty hard to beat. The "Slave Girl" 45 seems to be their high-water mark (the Citadel web site says it's still their best-selling single ever), so here's those two here's those two songs plus one more.

There, Anthony, since you're shy, I moved your comment over to here.

By the way, before some random person comes in here and tells me--the Goo Goo Dolls covered "Slave Girl", which I'm well aware of, I just didn't feel it was worth mentioning.

I'd agree that the first full-length was weak compared to their initial singles but I thought Volatile was quite good and Beethoven's Fist even better.

Yeah, I've still got almost all of their Virgin crap (including the "Mondo Libido" 12-inch, lucky me), so I might be posting all of it eventually.

"The Cave Comes Alive" is just horrid. I remember when it came out, and I was all excited to have it on cassette so I could play it in the car, and it was really dissapointing.

I don't think I've got "Volatile" anymore, but I've got an import copy of "Beethoven's Fist" that's still sealed, oddly enough... I think because it doesn't have a date on the back that I thought it was an earlier record of theirs, but then when I found out it was their 3rd LP I never bothered to listen to it. I'll have to crack that sucker open someday.

slave girl has got to be one of my top 20 records of all time. was proud the day someone reviewed a mland single and said the guitar sounded like Lime Spiders.

I'm gonna guess that's the "Get Out of My Head" single, but I'm probably wrong.

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. TOUGH SHIT, HIPPIE! No, actually, for those of you who missed the boat, I will do my best to respond to any e-mailed requests for the original files.
