I'm Alarmed So I'm Going Fishing

When I mentioned Burnversion the other day, it was while knowing that a lot of people probably haven't heard of them, so here you go. I first heard about Burnversion from Kevin of Creature Did, who recommended them to me during an interview back in '95 while he also happened to be wearing a Burnversion t-shirt; there's a picture on one of the Creature Did posts. It was maybe a year later that I saw the Burnversion CD (which actually might've came out in '96, I'm not sure) at Ye Olde Trash American Style, and of course I snapped it right up.

Burnversion operated within the same general territory of Dis- and some of the stuff that would start to come out on My Pal God, meaning moving past grunge onto what was still the beginnings of post-rock, or something like that. This stuff is amazing, in any case, and this has been one of my favorite CDs since the time I bought it. I've also got a Burnversion 7", which isn't nearly as good, and then there's another Burnversion CD that came out in '98 which I've never heard. You'll find a few copies of either CD listed on Amazon right now, though they're in the $25 - $40 range.

There's also a video of Burnversion on a Louisiana TV show which was just posted on YouTube a few months ago that you have to check out (click here) - it's pretty astonishing.

"Dryades & Felicity"

"Resurrection Time"

When you first mentioned them, I read the name as "Bumversion" and couldn't decide whether it was an awesome name or horrible. Irrelevant as it turns out. Good stuff again, thanks.

The video's hilarious, too, you gotta check it out. "Delicious semi-beef type sandwich..." Great song, too ("Sam Kinison").

Jet Jag played a gig with them at the Flying Squire around the time their album cam out. They killed. Good band.

I woulda loved to have seen this band play. I remember that club at the Danbury Airport, though...

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. They are now being hosted on my Vox page, along with 5 other songs from the CD that weren't included in the original post. My Vox page is accessible through any of the above listen-only links.

I'm shocked someone besides me knows who they were. No one would be mad if you re-posted those songs.

Yeah, but I'm lazy. I've started posting some older blog stuff on Tumblr, tho, so maybe I'll put a couple songs over there.

Tumblr gives me a headache...but okay! I'll keep an eye peeled over there. Thanks!

Yeah, Tumblr gives me a headache sometimes, too.

I found this post years ago but never commented. Didn't Burnversion have an album ca. 1994 with a photo of a Shell station with the "S" burned out as its cover art? (E.g., the title was "hell.") I seem to remember this very well; it was the Shell on Claiborne at Carrolton, I believe. Or was that another local band, perhaps Weedeater or Rigid? I never saw BV live... I seem to remember missing an Engines Of Aggression + BV show at the Howlin' Wolf in late '93 b/c I was underage. I remember being annoyed at the fawning coverage they got from a local music writer named Mark Meister of OffBeat. (I even asked him about it over IMs in '99, and he fessed up that he just liked them a lot, or maybe was even buddies with them.) I do remember an interview in which one of the band members said lots of fans asked him about the band name, and some demanded to know if it referred to burning the King James version of the Bible.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Mushroom in N.O. has a used copy of this CD in the $3 racks if anyone wants to go digging; and several (still-sealed) copies of their '98 album in the same racks.
