Now I Know You're Better Off Not Caring

The Liquor Giants are another band that I got all giggly over on my old blog (not gonna put up a link this time since I just did one in my last post so now it's played out), and if you were ever into Big Star/Badfinger-style guitar pop then this is a band for you.

The Liquor Giants is where Ward Dotson distilled the bar-band rock of the wicked great Pontiac Brothers into something that was way more power-pop, in the process coming up with as many impossibly stunning melodies as anyone ever has, including the aforementioned Chilton/Bell/Ham etc. Accordingly, "Play Along"/"Disgusted" is an amazing single; perhaps mastered a bit too loudly on the a-side, which is why I'm posting "Disgusted" first here, but no doubt these are two great songs (cool Art Chantry sleeve design, too).

For those keeping score at home: Spike Priggen, who played bass on this, was the frontman for one of Ct.'s first pop-punk bands, the TV Neats.

Not bad; not bad at all. Actually, I can see this growing on me. It makes me want to post some Teenage Fanclub.

Moreover, that's a cheap trick (!) mentioning Big Star and Badfinger both in the introduction to a post. Works though.

And the guitar IS great. I'm listening to "Disgusted" as I type, which just about sums up the way I feel about things right now in light of all these Blogger deletions.

Don't forget to use your vote.

Yeah, I figure the sleeve makes this post election-appropriate.

Later tonight I fully intend on watching the results come in on my tv. God help you all - and the rest of the world - if its Batman and Robin.

I submitted a write-in vote for Hong Kong Fooey, cuz that's my style.

Ha! I like all this talk of postal votes; over here you have to be practically be disabled to qualify for the luxury of not having to queue up around the block.

Well, oddly enough, I had to submit an "absentee ballot" (inside two envelopes-- I guess for security) because my voter registration didn't follow me the last time I moved, though it usually does.

Not only wasn't I registered with the town I used to live in, I had been taken off the list entirely; I was an unregistered voter, and the only way I could vote was by going to the town hall and dropping off a written ballot, which no doubt went straight into the dumpster.

I am always convinced, too, that any vote I cast will go on to reside in the great void of 'spoiled' ballots.

Of course, when they open my ballot and see that I wrote "Hong Kong Fooey", they're gonna throw it out anyway.

This is really solid. This guy's voice reminds me a bit of Dave Pirner (did I spell that right?).

Yes, you did spell Dave Pirner right. Surprised as I am that someone even remembers him.
