I Just Sit Around

I might be pushing it by posting two Punchbuggy albums within hours of each other, but that was the plan from the beginning anyway. Besides, Punchbuggy's "All Nite Christian Rollerskate" ranks alongside Bender's "Funny Kar" as two of the most underrated pop-punk albums of the 90's (both from Canada, too), though as usual my list is probably a bit flawed. I'll admit that I don't have Punchbuggy's middle two CDs, "Grand Opening Going Out Of Business Sale" and "My Norwegian Cousin"-- I've only heard bits and pieces of them-- but if I were you I'd get on that shit right away.

It used to bother me that Punchbuggy took "I'm Around", the one track with the tiniest guitar sound, and made it the opening track on the record, but I've gotten over it since then and I hardly notice it now. Besides, it's a cool song. Otherwise, "All Nite Christian Rollerskate" is chock full of hits, which made it tough to whittle down to the eight tracks I'm posting here, but (whew) somehow I managed.

Very nice, Brushback. I've never heard Punchbuggy before. Great cover shot, incidentally.

A Canadian pop/punk discussion without a mention of THE NILS? Put down the Molson and get to it, eh?

Good running into you last weekend!

Well, I'd already referenced The Nils in one of my Doughboys posts, so I didn't want to run them into the ground yet again.

Thanks again for the CDs, Bruce...

Ib, I never would've figured out of everything I've posted recently that Punchbuggy would be your style...

The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. It was great listening to all the songs again while I was transfering the files to my Vox account-- great band...

This is truely a great album. I listened to it rather recently. Jim Bryson still plays up here in the ottawa area, more of a folksy acoustic deal though (also did a version of a Sinkhole song on his latest record).....also as a former member of the other band you mentioned in this post, thanks for the nod as far as underrated bands go.....2/3 of us and a guitar player friend recently got together again to start playing music again...warmed up with most of that record, was kind of weird playing it after 14 years.

Cheers

Holy crap, you're from Bender! I friggin' love "Funny Kar", I bet I still know at least half the words to every song on that CD.

Yeah, Sinkhole. What a great label Ringing Ear was. Plus I wish the Groucho Marxists would play out more, I'd love to see them. (I'm just babbling at this point.)

thats probably twice as many lyrics as I remember!
Sinkhole ruled, yes....I'm gonna make a point of getting down to Jersey to see Groucho Marxists sometime in the new year, have you checked ou tthe newest song on their myspace page "primary caregiver"? it rules....

Yeah, that song's fucking great (needs some help hitting that note, though). Good luck seeing them, I've been wanting to for a while now but they never seem to play out...
