I'm not sure if the "Della Street" 10-inch counts as the odd duck among the Prisonshake catalog ("If you want rocked out stuff, you might want to wait til the next record... we know not everyone digs ballads and 8-minute moody workouts" --Scat label blurb), but even if it does, it's a pretty good songwriting exhibition on their part. It may not be their best record-- the "Deanna" 45 is the one I'd grab if I had to run out of the house all of a sudden, if not one of the compilations-- but it's possibly their best batch of songs... at least, as far as the three "real" songs go. I kinda wanted to post vinyl rips of all three of them here, except that you can still pick up the CD version from Scat for four bucks (I have the CD, also-- the sleeve is exactly like the vinyl version), so I'll only go with two: "Carnival Game", which is sorta rocked but not entirely, and "Molly London", the so-called ballad which has a deep, deep hook for the chorus. I really love how "From Down Here" sorta lopes along, too, thanks in part to Scott Pickering's always rock-solid drumming, but like I said, the CD can be had from Scat for cheap if you wanna hear the whole thing.

hey, great one! i got one of their 7s (Fuck Your Self-Esteem) as a freebie and was blown away. great band.
Well here's a long shot. There was another band from Cleveland, contemporaries of Prisonshake when they first started - The Vivians. Do you happen to have any of their stuff, especially the LP "I Fear?" I have scoured the internet and Soulseek for that LP but no dice.
Wow, you're stumping me with that one-- that name doesn't stick out for me at all, though now I see that I've got a copy of "So Much To Answer For" with The Vivians on it, something that Mr. HCI sent me... sorry, I'm striking out!
Hi Brushback, just found your blog today - got all excited about hearing a bunch of Prisonshake that'd never crossed my ears before. But - denied! The links are down/not working for all of these posts except the latest (Della Street). Is there any chance of re-posting these? I'd love to hear 'em (...and the chance of Scat doing a comp any time soon seem remote). Aside from all that, your posts made for an interesting and diverting read, so well done on that and keep up the good work.
Best wishes,
Grunza
Yeah, once Vox.com went out of business last year, I lost my host for all of my stream-only mp3's so all those links went dead. I'd like to get some of the older links back up again using some other way, but I haven't figured out how I'm going to do that yet. Maybe I'll start selecting older posts and re-upping them bit by bit, but having too much stuff available for download just causes more trouble (see: Naked Raygun post)....
I was hoping that Scat still might get the Prisonshake box set out, as sort of one last final bow, but now I'm not so sure if he still feels like doing it.
Cheers Brushback. Any chance to hear these songs is appreciated, so while bit-by-bit re-ups are not anyone's ideal world, if's that's gotta be the way then so be it. I guess it means, at least, that I'll keep coming back and clicking (and hopefully listening as you trickle these songs out) until such time that this possible box set does appear for purchase. But I'm not holding my breath on that...
Best, Grunza
