I used to think that Boyracer were the best indie-pop band in the world, and I still don't think I was too far off. I love how most of the best Boyracer songs seem to explode when they get to the chorus, and how Stewart almost always sings the beginning of each verse like he's already in the middle of it. Anyway, this is a one-sided 12" EP in another impossibly limited pressing from the always unreliable Blackbean and Placenta Tape Club, as sort of a companion to the 7" version which was released in Germany around the same time by Turntable Friend. Three almost perfect pop songs here, all at about 1:20 each-- what could be better than that?

I say Boyracer in the same breath as The Fall and The Wedding Present...bands I would not protest being stuck on a desert island listening to for five years.
This band was personally recommended to me in a note I still have from Lance Hahn after ordering a Cringer 7"..I ended up getting "More Songs About Frustration.." in a cut out bin in NYC, and "Friend For Life" had me hooked from the first chord. I think I have "boxing Day" compiled somewhere else, but I'm happy to get this hat trick in its original format.
I have a Cringer LP that's completely terrible.
Yeah, y'know...ears are wasted on the young! I really liked Cringer and Monsula in high school, and if it got me into Boyracer..it can't be that bad! OK, so it could be..
I think I first heard Boyracer on the "Going Against Maz's Advice" Four-Letter Words comp ("An international comp of rock and fucking roll!"). I might've had one of their singles first, I'm not sure. Anyway, I was like "this stuff is awesome!" and I went on a Boyracer buying spree right after that.
The mp3 files on this post are now listen-only (non-downloadable) files. They've been moved to my Vox account (accesible through any of the above listen-only links), along with one other song, "Baleen", which wasn't included in the original post (even though it's a pretty good song).
For those of you who missed the boat, I will do my best to respond to any e-mailed requests for the original files.
