Do You Think That'll Help This Time Around?

I bought this single back in '95 at Brass City Records because I saw "Louisville" and "Howie Gano" on the back and figured for for a buck ninety-five I couldn't go wrong... plus the fake Albini lettering on the front left me nostalgic for the '80s. Turns out it was a pretty good investment, because "Kitty Come Home" totally kicks in a Scratch Acid/"back when Touch & Go was good" sort of way, which set me off on a little Freemasonry binge for a while. It wasn't long before I called the record label-- the phone number's on the back of the sleeve-- and snagged a copy of the "Sparrin' With The Varmint" CD, which is pretty good also, but if you really want to hear something cool, go to this place and download the two Freemasonry demos that you'll find there (along with some other neat stuff). You'll thank me later.

I saw 'em live and thought they were really good. Picked up the "Sparrin' . . ." CD a while later and wasn't too impressed, unfortunately. On the upside, I gave it to a co-worker of mine a couple of years ago and he liked it quite a bit.

Try downloading the demo stuff, it rocks pretty hard. Supposedly the CD came out more polished then they wanted, even though I still like the CD a lot.

Here's a track from the "Pool Hall" demo, if you wanna check it out:

those demos are great.

also, check out beyondfailure.blogspot.com for amazing Atlanta emo weirdness and recollections from Hal al Shedad drummer James Joyce.

Wow, that Beyond Failure is AWESOME! Looks like he managed to save all his demo tapes and flyers, which is something I was never able to do.

Funny, I was going to recommend Beyond Failure as well. And fyi, that "fake Albini" lettering was actually Kip (the drummer's) real, unaffected handwriting.

Yeah, I found out it was Kip's handwriting when I finally read the Freemasonry entry that was posted on Beyond Failure.

Beyond Failure is astounding... I spent about half an hour reading through most of it last night. Every scene should have something like that going for it.

I've gone through so many hibernations and record/zine collection purges that there's no way I could still have all of that type of stuff (flyers, photos, etc) available to post now. I'm surprised over all of the stuff that shows up on Chunklet, also.

The mp3 file in this post is now a listen-only (non-downloadable) file. I'm willing to e-mail the original file to anyone who sends me an e-mail and asks, but you should really go to Beyond Failure instead since he's got all of this stuff.
